Learning Support Development Package
Our Learning Support Package offers initial training for new or inexperienced teaching assistants as well as refresher training and a range of specialised workshops for those with more experience. We also offer Higher Level Training Assistant training and accreditation through our partner Babcock 4S.
Our Teaching Assistant Development Programme provides basic training in the core elements of the teaching assistant role including safeguarding, the SEN Code of Practice, behaviour management and effective working practices. It also includes a range of specialist workshops that provide further training for both new and experienced teaching assistants on specific areas of learning support.
Our nationally accredited Higher Level Teaching Assistant Programme is delivered in partnership with Babcock FS. It is a formally assessed training programme that confers HLTA Status following successful completion.
Teaching Assistant Development Programme
2 x full-day sessions
The course will be repeated in the autumn and spring terms
Aimed at: newly appointed and more experienced TAs
This two-day course provides newly appointed TAs with an introduction to important skills they will need when working with children. It also provides refresher training to more experienced TAs who haven’t benefitted from continued CPD. It is aimed equally at support staff who work in classroom environments with larger groups of children and those who support individual children or run specific intervention groups.
The first day will cover core skills such as behaviour management, effective questioning, promoting independence and removing barriers to learning. The second day will provide specialist training in a variety of areas with the content chosen to match the needs of the group. During this second session, participants will be able to choose from a range of specialist areas, including:
One-to-one reading support
Speech and language
Improving pupils’ motivation and learning beahiours
During both sessions, participants will be equipped with tried and tested strategies that they can take back to their own schools.
14th January, 2020 – Beechwood Junior School – 9.30am – 2.30pm

10th March, 2020 – Beechwood Junior School – 9.30am – 2.30pm
Elective training on a range of specialist areas and needs to be matched to the needs of the participants.

Aimed at: Teaching and Learning Support Assistants wishing to achieve HLTA status
The Higher Level Teaching Assistant Programme is delivered by Babcock 4S, part of the HLTA National Assessment Partnership (HNAP). It is a national accredited programme that, following successful completion of a half-day assessment, results in the candidate being awarded HLTA status.
All candidates must have the relevant Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE A*-C grade) maths and English qualification certificates before applying. This will need to be produced before the start of the course.
The process of HLTA qualification is made up of two main elements: 3 days preparation and training and half-day school assessment in the candidate’s own school. To complete the assessment, all candidates must demonstrate that they meet the 33 national HLTA standards.

Please Note: time will need to be given prior to Day 4 to allow participants to build a portfolio of evidence and complete and submit assessment tasks
Day 4: Half-day assessment at candidate’s own school to be arranged with Babcock 4SS.
The course will be facilitated by Babcock 4S
